چکیده

We propose the design of a benchmarking and instrumentation component for the GENI experimental networking testbed. Our design uses a workload generation system to create reproducible network conditions and an instrumentation component to collect measurement data. We discuss the research challenges related to this design.

A tool for the generation of realistic network workload for emerging networking scenarios

Internet workload is a mix of many and complex sources. Therefore, its accurate and realistic replication is a difficult and challenging task. Such difficulties are exacerbated by the multidimensional heterogeneity and scale of the current Internet combined with its constant evolution. The study and generation of network workload is a moving target, both in terms of actors (devices, access netw...

How Real Can Synthetic Network Traffic Be?

At some point, most networking researchers simulate or emulate networks in order to understand the behavior or performance of some piece of networking technology. In performing these experiments, there is a clear need to have the ability to generate realistic synthetic workloads; synthetic network traffic whose statistical properties match those of traffic observed on a real network link. In ou...

An Evaluation of Design Tradeo s in a High PerformanceMedia - on - Demand Server

One of the key components of a multiuser multimedia-on-demand system is the data server. Digitalization of traditionally analog data such as video and audio, and the feasibility of obtaining network bandwidths above the gigabit-per-second range are two important advances that have made possible the realization, in the near future, of interactive distributed multime-dia systems. Secondary-to-mai...

Generation and Validation of Empirically-derived Tcp Application Workloads

FÉLIX HERNÁNDEZ-CAMPOS: Generation and Validation of Empirically-Derived TCP Application Workloads. (Under the direction of Kevin Jeffay) This dissertation proposes and evaluates a new approach for generating realistic traffic in networking experiments. The main problem solved by our approach is generating closed-loop traffic consistent with the behavior of the entire set of applications in mod...
